RICHARD RAUBOLT, Ph.D, Psychologist and Specialist in Trauma Disorders, “Detroit: Living in Between - A Documentary”
We welcome Dr. Raubolt back to our Torch Club as a speaker this month. He previously presented on “Must We Always Forgive” in October, 2010.
Detroit, referred to as the “mecca of urban ruins” is the focus of Dr. Raubolt’s documentary. Detroiter’s have witnessed an alarming decline that has left the City of Detroit isolated and in the sad position of the largest shrinking city in the country. Those who have expressed an interest in the city are seemingly more captivated by “ruin photos” than by the human stories of those currently living in Detroit. Finding and honoring other healthier emotional narratives, much like analysis, may offer understanding to the marginalized while highlighting transitions to better possibilities.
Please join us for this fascinating look at the City of Detroit as seen through the eyes and voices of Detroiters as they teach us what the city was – is – and may become. “Raubolt sees Detroit not as an emblem of American decay, but as a metaphor for change, which lifts Living in Between from documentary to allegory.” – Noah Haidle, writer: Stand Up Guys.
Dr. Richard Raubolt is a licensed psychologist who provides psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and counseling for clients in Grand Rapids and throughout West Michigan.
